Highway 128 fire

Flames stopped short of a roadway amid a fast-growing wildfire on Highway 128 between Lake Berryessa and Winters.

A vegetation fire that broke out Thursday afternoon continued to block the road connecting northern Napa County to Yolo County on Friday, according to Cal Fire.

Cal Fire said the Winters Fire was reported at 12:41 p.m. off Highway 128 near Pleasant View Road, 3 miles southwest of Winters.

The fire, which spread to 1,932 acres, was 31 percent contained by 2 p.m. Friday, officials said. Firefighters at the scene were expected to face a challenging day as they fought to improve containment of the fire along steep terrain with difficult access and dry, dense vegetation. Erratic winds were also a problem, officials said.

Mandatory evacuations were ordered for Los Positos Estates and Golden Bear Estates at 6 p.m. Thursday when the fire had only spread to 1,000 acres. Officials lifted mandatory evacuations for both areas on Friday.

Officials said no structures were threatened, but one person was reported injured. The cause of the fire is under investigation.

Highway 128 near Lake Berryessa Dam and Pleasant Valley Road has remained closed due to the fire.
