Mr. Varga wonders – is God good? ("Is God really love?" Dec. 7) Really? And at Christmas season?
He offers a time-worn atheistic theory that a good God, who is also all-powerful, would not allow evil to exist. Friend, it is called free will. God is also merciful. Is this not the spirit that sweeps our country? A journalist postulates that it’s useless to pray for America. Have we lost our bearings – so PC and progressive it offends some to hear Christ’s name at Christmas time?
Christianity was the motive that brought the Pilgrims to America, and Christianity and its doctrines that influenced the writing of our Constitution, Bill of Rights, and the Declaration of Independence, as well as our form of government.
The God that created this earth and millions of forms of life thereon is indeed good! And yes evil exists, but only as long as God has determined. Then evil will be judged.
God’s goodness is seen in His Son, Jesus Christ, who came to pay our sin debt – that’s why we rejoice at Christmas time and say “Merry Christmas” and give gifts – because God is good.

America is a Christian nation because it began that way, and because the majority of Americans are still Christian in belief.
Rejoice, and Merry Christmas.

SAD!! Idolatry rules as the population swells. We humans, are just killing ourselves off with hate, judgement, greed and power. Shoot thy neighbor as you would shoot thyself.
My point was that the Native Americans are not native to this continent, they came from elsewhere.
Many thousands of years before white settlers arrived, maybe, but by that logic then the only place anyone is native to is Africa. That's where human life evolved.
"America is a Christian nation because it began that way, and because the majority of Americans are still Christian in belief.".
Wrong
"America" actually is home to the earth based spirituality of Native Americans. Recall that christianity was imposed upon America by barbaric conquistadors and omen interpreting, which burning Puritans.
The forefathers in their wisdom saw the absurdity inherent among the different sects and denominations of christians and other religious groups. under the influence of enlightenment thinking, freedom of religion was granted with the understanding that no two people will ever agree and all who want to should do as they see fit. however the current Zeitgeist we have those on the far right in this country who want to turn the clock back on religious freedoms. They impose their dark age "morality" uponcritical thinkers who don't share those fantastical beliefs.
I guess, Del, I'm just in the minority then. Recall also that the percentage of Americans who completed a four year college degree are also in the minority so I guess I don't feel so bad
Well, I guess that makes you the winner!
One question though....What the hell is a Native America? Is it a person that walked over the land bridge from Asia or Europe, or one that evolved from the Apes that were native to the Americas?
On an unrelated subject, I know a guy that was so intent on separating church and state that for quite awhile he cut out (with an exato knife) In God We Trust from every bill that crossed his control. He was a winner just like you.
You probably don't know who the Native Americans are because European settlers decimated them upon arrival in the native Americas. They were the people who lived here for thousands of years before Christians showed up and decided their whiteness entitled them to this land.
I don't blame you for your confusion.
You don't know who Native Americans are? They were the original settlers of this country. Get out your history book and figure it out. Perhaps a class in early American History and Anthropology would help you 1958. Your surly, disrespectful answer to Theo contributes nothing to this discussion. And, I guess that makes you the loser...
Ah, typing on my phone will be the death of me. "In their native America" was the intended phrase.
So much claptrap, so little space to respond. Let me just ask:
Can someone, anyone, please show me the “influence” of Christianity on “our Constitution, Bill of Rights, and the Declaration of Independence, as well as our form of government”? It is astounding (and a bit pathetic) that, against all evidence, people still hold this belief.
What country are the Syrian refugees turning to? America. God has blessed America because we choose to follow Him. As America turns from God the blessings will decrease. Do people really want to live in a godless country where man(gov't) determines your rights and then can take them away any time they want? A huge majority of Americans don't support or trust what is going on in Washington so why would you want a socialist president that would make things worse for our country? Our rights come from God for a reason, so man can't take them away. Judgement day is coming for America. It could be ISIS.
I'm happy to live in a country with a godless constitution, a 100% secular document.
Well I agree 100%....but the cronies won't unless they can find a way to tax it or charge a fee, which makes sense, not common sense, they are dependent on us, and us on a far higher dependence, some anyway maybe even most of us.
On thing for sure...there are darn few atheists, agnostics whichever they're cronies all the same, at the end of the road on their death bed, or in a fox hole being shot at with mortars falling out of the sky making more fox holes inches away....on a sinking boat, a plane/jet without lift over the ocean or mountains. They aren't nearly as brave as they think they are, nor to us of value.
Actually, there have been quite a large number of atheists in foxholes. Too many. In fact, at Lake Hypatia, Alabama, there is a monument dedicated to atheists who've served in the U.S. military.
I'm guessing that if there were more atheists, there'd be fewer foxholes.
For a bloke who never came within a football field of an armed forces recruiting office, let alone a combat zone, you sure do talk about the glory of the military a lot glen.
Just a thought though, maybe you should leave such talk to the people that were actually in the military. I don't tell you how to play with your Tinker Toys, do I?
