In the recent article about ADA (“More Napa Valley businesses hit with handicapped access lawsuits,” Feb. 13) I’d like to point out that the legal standards are both Federal via Americans with Disability Act of 1990 and California Building Code Sections 11. The main purposes of these laws are to eliminate discrimination in access and use in public and housing spaces. There is an amendment proposed to Congress that would require a 30-day grace period prior to the filing of a lawsuit to allow non-compliance issues to be responded to or resolved. Contact your Congressman, Mike Thompson; and Senators Diane Fienstien and Kamala Harris.
