It is reassuring to know that Bruce Ketron continues to serve our community as a member of the board of trustees of Napa Valley College.
I, like countless others, found Napa Valley College to be the catalyst allowing me to grow in knowledge and opportunity. This institution has opened the doors to seekers of all ages, assisting them in re-creating themselves and their lives. Many became leaders in our community, including our own Congressman Mike Thompson. Napa Valley College matters.
Bruce Ketron also got his start at Napa Valley College. After law school, Bruce focused on his community and became a leader in his own right. As a community leader, Bruce has focused on the needs of the most vulnerable and on education. Bruce has proven over his years of service to be accountable, representative and almost pugnacious in his role as a leader and as a trustee. Adequate has never been good enough for Bruce and his efforts have shown that he believes it is not good enough for the students of Napa Valley College.
Bruce has worked tirelessly to help shepherd Napa Valley College to new levels of excellence. He has worked to maintain the campus as safe and secure. He has worked for a college community that sees a myriad of choices and honors diversity.
Bruce has continued as a student himself. He is a seeker who looks beyond to learn what works and what doesn’t. He has the courage to stretch himself and expects the college to do the same as it reaches for excellence. Bruce asks the questions of “where will we be in the future?” “What is the climate that fosters the inclusion of more choices and builds a healthier community?” And “what do our students need in order to compete in and add value to the world that is emerging?” Bruce is ready to work to find answers to these questions and more in his quest to provide a transformative experience for our students.
We know that not everyone is seeking a degree. Many young people want to learn a trade, skills, which will provide the springboard to gainful and rewarding employment. Bruce has worked to preserve and protect the certificate programs that provide these opportunities.
Bruce Ketron has proven his first priority is the students of Napa Valley College. He has proven himself to be diligent, accountable, resourceful, and knowledgeable. We needed his leadership during the times of budget cuts, market downturns and other challenges. We need him now as Napa valley College prepares for the new challenges in the world of work, education and community.
Please join me in supporting Bruce and voting for him on Nov. 4. We need his voice.
