I work at the new Nightingale shelter. I was recently quoted in the article about the homeless respite shelter, (“Nightingale Center cares for homeless after hospital stay”) which made the front page on June 29.
It was a lovely article that spoke of the many people who we are helping to heal and to find their way back into society. One thing that concerned me though, was the mention of how many out-of-county clients we are helping.
Here at Nightingale, our clients come to us from the hospitals in the valley, including St. Helena Health, which also serves Lake County and north. We have had three out-of-county clients, two of whom have gone, or will be going back to their counties. The third out-of-county client is also a war veteran who served in the Vietnam War fighting for the whole country, not just one county.

Our goal is to repatriate clients whenever possible, and in most cases that is the client’s goal as well. I just wanted to draw attention to the fact that most of our clients are Napa citizens and have been here over 10 years.
