Driving up Monticello Road's trail of overwhelming damage, erratic fire path, burned homes and legions of repair crews, our grandson, Logan, was anxious to see his own house in Circle Oaks.

His family was able to return two days ago, so we were able to bring him and the family dog home. After miles and miles of once familiar landscape now scarred by the fire, Logan's quiet observation from the back seat says it all: "I'll never forget the black."
