I would like to thank all the local and mutual aid men and women who came to the aid of our community from everywhere. You are the greatest.
I was critical at the start of the fire, wondering where everyone was. This is the fourth major fire I have gone through in my life in this valley. I was critical about seeing the lack of equipment at the Napa Valley Expo Monday and Tuesday.
Now, as I wrote on Saturday I have come to realize this is like no other fire event ever in this valley. I feel our officials, police and fire personnel did exactly what they should have.
I am very tearful for the loss of life here and our sister counties, but seeing the ferocity and intensity of this fire I have come to realize our police and fire personnel have kept this tragic loss of life very low to what it could have been.
The commitment shown by our emergency personnel and our neighbors for our neighbors has been truly valiant in the highest order. And the aid of so many communities sending their best to help us to me is overwhelming.
Every one of these people is a hero in my mind. I pray none of them will get hurt.
This tragedy has been waiting to happen on the west side of town since I was born, for there has never been a fire of equal magnitude of past fires that occurred on the east hills, on the west side. The fuel there has been growing unchecked since I was born.
I have heard some negative comments and I'd just like to say, in my opinion, all of the people involved has done a stellar job in protecting life in the eye of what I consider the most destructive event that has ever happened in this region.Thank you to all the emergency personnel.
With love from the Bertolucci family.
