Megan Thee Stallion and Fashion Nova Cares have donated $50,000 to support the victims of the Atlanta spa shootings.
The ‘WAP’ hitmaker and the fashion brand have teamed up with activist May Lee to donate the whopping sum to Advancing Justice Atlanta - a non-profit organisation dedicated to the rights of Asian Americans in Georgia – following the devastating shootings on March 16, which saw a gunman enter three different spas and kill eight people.
In an Instagram post announcing the donation, Megan - who donated the sum with Fashion Nova as part of their joint Women on Top initiative - wrote: “I am heartbroken by the loss of eight individuals taken from their families on March 16 in a senseless, violent attack against Asian Americans.
“To honor the memory of these victims, @FashionNova and I have partnered with the journalist and Asian activist @mayleeshow on a $50,000 donation to @advancing_justice_atl who work tirelessly to protect the civil and human rights of Asian Americans in Georgia and the Southeast.
“We stand in solidarity with all Asian Americans in saying that enough is enough. #StopAsianHate #StandWithAANHPICommunity (sic)”
The donation comes after Megan and Fashion Nova also handed $100,000 to the Breonna Taylor Foundation earlier this month to mark the one-year anniversary of her death.
The foundation was set up by Breonna’s mother, Tamika Palmer, to support "economic, social, and racial justice through police reform and government accountability" and "seeks to help young people to realize their full potential”.
Megan wrote on social media at the time: “A year ago today Breonna Taylor was tragically taken from her family and friends. Breonna’s name continue’s to be a catalyst for change and a powerful reminder that justice has still not been served. Fashion Nova and I are proud to give $100,000 to the @breonnataylorfoundation created by @tamikalpalmer to honor the memory of her daughter.
“The core mission of the foundation is to support economic, social, and racial justice through police reform and government accountability. The foundation also seeks to help young people to realize their full potential, empowering them to participate in political processes and achieve better health, with mentorship programs for high-school girls, after-school initiatives, and educational support. #BreonnaTaylorFoundation #JusticeForBre #SayHerName #BlackLivesMatter #BlackWomenMatter (sic)”
