Pompeii partnership

As if the volcano weren’t enough, a constant flow of tourists (some 2.3 million each year) threatened to trample the ancient city of Pompeii into further ruin. German scientists from the Technical University of Munich and Fraunhofer Institute in Stuttgart are leading a restoration effort to mitigate the deterioration of the site’s buildings and decorative and architectural fittings, and to improve the way in which the site is managed.
