Nine athletes from the Napa Track Club made the trip to Eugene, Ore., to compete in the Track City International Classic last Saturday.
The annual meet is held at the University of Oregon’s famous Hayward Field, and is one of the highlights of the NTC season.
The locals performed very well on the big stage, coming home with a total of eight medals and nine new personal bests.
Sophia Marseilles had the best day of her young track career, capturing gold medals in both the Midget Girls high jump (4 feet, 11⁄4 inches) and 80-meter hurdles (16.07 seconds). She also had a personal best in the long jump (12-71⁄2).
The club also collected a gold medal in the Midget Girls 1,500-meter racewalk, with Donna Roscoe winning in a personal-best time of 9 minutes, 6.11 seconds.
Brendan Cardey collected two medals in the Intermediate Boys division, claiming silver in the high jump (5-5) and bronze in the javelin (129-3).

Eric Zoller had a very good weekend, posting new personal bests in all four of his events. He took the silver medal in the Young Men’s category of the 400 meters with a time of 52.96. He also long jumped (17-81⁄2) and ran the 100 meters (11.74) and the 200 meters (23.22).
Thomas Salsman brought home a silver medal in the Youth Boys javelin (128- 3). Lauren Cardey took the bronze in the Young Women’s high jump (4-9).
Megan Zoller set a new personal best and finished fourth with a good effort in the Young Women’s long jump (17-31⁄2).
Sean Carlo Uribe attained a new personal record in both the Youth Boys 100-meter hurdles (17.69) and the long jump (15-41⁄4).
The club’s final competition of the season will be the USA Track & Field Junior Olympics, which will start July 27 in Sacramento.
