Youth Track and Field: Napa competes in Union City

Athletes from the Napa Track Club traveled to Union City to compete at the 3M Invitational last weekend. The meet was a qualifier for the USA Youth Outdoor National Championships, which will be held June 29 to July 4 in Illinois. 

Three competitors surpassed the qualifying standards and gained entry to the national meet.

Donna Roscoe secured a spot in the 1,500-meter racewalk with a second-place time of 9 minutes, 22 seconds. She is the defending national champion in this event.

Brendan Cardey earned a spot in the javelin. His throw of 129 feet, 3 inches was also good for second place. The eighth-grader also won the high jump with a clearance of 5-6. Both marks were new personal records.

Another eighth-grader, Kyle Beaver, qualified in the javelin throw. His mark of 110-9 was good for third place and a new personal record. He also won the shot put with a toss of 36-10.

Other club members who earned medals for their performances included William Marseilles, with a gold in the turbo javelin (57-4) and a silver in the shot put (11-4), and Sophia Marseilles, who took silver in the high jump (4-2).

Athletes achieving new personal bests included Chris Vaziri in the 1,500 meters (5:45), Corbin Wells in the 800 meters (3:03), Cameron Vaziri in the turbo javelin (53-9) and Nathan Sterling in the shot put (15-7).
