  • 1

The Napa Track Club brought home 16 medals from the Pacific Association Track and Field Championships, held last weekend at James Logan High in Union City.

The intermediate boys led the way for the club with six medals. Nicholas Garcia, a Napa High athlete, placed third in the pole vault and javelin and fourth in the triple jump. Justin-Siena students William Yates and Brandon Cardey both earned first-place medals. Yates won the high jump and also made the medal stand by taking sixth place in the 110 high hurdles.

Cardey continued his dominance in the boys javelin by winning the PA championship.

In the bantam girls division, Isabel de Blois won the championship medal in the 1,500 race walk in a personal-record time of 10 minutes, 50 seconds. Mia Oggenfuss made the medal stand by placing fifth in the high jump. In the midget girls division, Cailey Eade made the medal stand in the high jump by placing sixth in the high jump, and scored a lifetime best in the 3,000-meter run.

The midget boys division saw Danny Harrop have a strong showing in the field events. He scored a championship medal by winning the discus with a personal-best heave of 78 feet, and placed third in the shot put with a personal best of 28 feet, 11 inches. Solomon Tinnon took third in the high jump at a personal-best 4 feet. Max Harrop accompanied his brother on the medal stand by placing sixth in the discus.

In the youth girls divison, Sophia Marseilles made the medal stand with fourths in the high jump and triple jump. Saisha Marroquin was fifth in a very competitive javelin event.

The Napa Track Club — guided by volunteer coaches Tony Giovannoni (hurdles, high jump), Brian Smith (discus, shot put), Steve Cardey (javelin, jumps) and Chip Lilenthal (javelin), who is still the record holder for the Pacific Association in the young men’s division — competes next in the Junior Olympics qualifying meet, June 24-26, at Granada High in Livermore.
