At last year’s Napa Valley Cooking School open house and marketplace, student chef Erick Martinez, left, was busy at the barbecue as fellow student Matt Noble arranged plates of herb cous cous and homemade yogurt. The school’s free marketplace event returns Thursday, March 21, from 5-7 p.m. on the upper campus of Napa Valley College, 1088 College Ave. The professional culinary students will have their artisan breads, sweet and savory pastries for sale, as well as house-made cheese, fruit preserves, fresh organic eggs from the hardworking NVCS hens, organic herbs and produce, homemade jams, pickles, chutneys and preserves. There will also be cooking demonstrations, wine and music. Call 967-2901.
