Mayor Alan Galbraith is initiating a series of monthly mayor’s forums to discuss specific issues of interest around town.
Inspired by Calistoga Mayor Chris Canning’s monthly forums, the St. Helena meetings will allow residents to gather in a semicircle and discuss the given topic freely, without the formal constraints of a regular council meeting. The mayor and one other member of the council, chosen on a rotating basis, would attend.
Galbraith proposed water quality as the topic for the first meeting, which hasn’t been scheduled. Earlier this month the city acknowledged complaints about city tap water, assuring customers that the water is still safe to drink despite seasonal algae growth that sometimes affects taste and odor.
Galbraith said staff could go into further detail about the city’s testing process and state and federal standards regarding water quality.
Galbraith asked people to email him at firstname.lastname@example.org about potential topics for subsequent meetings.
