Can you believe the news about 13-year-old Ava Busby? The Robert Louis Stevenson Middle School student has been taking ballet for years and in January she was accepted for a summer intensive at the Bolshoi Ballet Academy. What an opportunity for the teenager, who is the daughter of CIA chef Adam Busby and Chef Barbara Alexander, who runs the Napa Valley Cooking School at the St. Helena campus of Napa Valley College. There’s a hitch, though, and that’s the cost of the program. If you’d like to help, I’m sure Ava would appreciate it … and maybe even do a pirouette in your honor. Contact Ava through her mother at 480 Madia Lane, Angwin, CA 94508.

Here’s another note from a youngster, although this one was sent by the U.S. Postal Service, instead of email, Twitter, Snapchat or whatever. Lane Baylog, a fourth-grader in Mr. McConaughy’s class at the Charlotte Latin School is doing a report on California. The youngster from North Carolina said he is learning about California through books and websites, but writes, “I was hoping that you would be willing to send me some items to help me learn more about the best things” in California. If you’re so inclined, please send the fourth-grader things like postcards, maps, pictures, souvenirs or any other items that would be useful. Send them to Lane in care of Mr. McConaughy’s class, Charlotte Latin School, 9502 Providence Road, Charlotte, NC 28277.

Finally, I’d like to wish you a fine Saturday … I understand the weather is going to be delightful this weekend … and I hope that you are not the victim nor the perpetrator of a joke that day … otherwise, you might be called an “April Fool.” Goodbye to March … did it go out like a lamb or a lion? … and hello to April, just in time, I’d say.
